Letter from the Transportation Department

Greetings Elementary Parents/Students,

Elementary students may return back to in person learning on the hybrid learning model.  Group A students will be attending on Monday and Tuesday.  Group B students will be attending Wednesday and Thursday.  If you are unsure of what group your student is in please contact your student’s teacher or school.

Elementary bus routes will remain the same for the most part, but expect bus stop times to change after a week or so as we learn who our bus riders are.  Please visit the Aztec Municipal School District Transportation web page or call the Transportation office at 599-4303 to find your students bus number and bus stop time.

To follow PED guidance and rules, below are the Transportation Parent/Student Guidelines for Covid-19 operations.  This information will be handed out to students when they ride the bus and also can be found on the Aztec Municipal School District Transportation webpage or in the Aztec Municipal School District Re-Entry document.

  1. Students will only be allowed one bus stop in the morning and one bus stop in the afternoon.
    1. In order to minimize congregation of children from different households there will be no alternate bus stops allowed except in the event a student has to ride an alternate bus for athletics.
  2. Parents/Guardians are recommended to take their student’s temperature before leaving to the bus stop.
    1. If the student has a fever of 100°F or higher, shortness of breath or cough please keep your student at home.
  3. All students and staff will be required to wear a face covering while riding the bus.
  4. Parents/Guardians and students are encouraged to practice social distancing at their designated bus stops.
  5. Bus aides will be on all morning bus routes to conduct temperature checks at bus stops.
  6. Parents/Guardians or age appropriate designee with students in 8th grade or lower will be strongly encouraged  to be at the bus stop until the student’s temperature check has been completed.
    1. Students in 8th grade or lower will not be left alone at the bus stop.
    2. Notes from parents stating their student can walk home if they have a fever will not be accepted.
    3. Students with a temperature of 100°F or higher will not be allowed on the bus and sent back home with parent/guardian or designee.
      1. Please note, if parent is not at the bus stop with the student the bus will be late to school.
    4. In the event a parent/guardian/designee disagrees that their student has a temperature of 100°F or higher they can transport their student to the school site for a nurse to complete a secondary screening.
    5. Students can return to school after they have not had a fever for 24 hours without taking medication.
  7. Students in high school do not require a parent/guardian at the bus stop but it is recommended.
    1. High school students with a temperature of 100°F will be sent home and parent/guardian will be notified.
    2. Students can return to school after they have not had a fever for 24 hours without taking medication.
  8. Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entrance of the bus for students boarding and departing the bus.
  9. Students will be assigned seats from the back to the front of the bus in the order they board and will sit one per seat if possible.
    1. Students that are related or live in the same house hold will be assigned to the same seat.
    2. PED guidance states that a maximum of two students may sit together on a bus seat.
  10. Students will exit the bus from the front to the back when arriving at the school site.
  1. All buses in use will be disinfected after they have been cleaned by assigned staff with a Clorox bleach solution recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the end of each bus run.

Thank you for all your support and effort in returning to school and keeping our students and staff safe!
